Our 4th Linlithgow Classic Car Day event – this year on Sunday 1st September 2013 – was a great success once more even in chilly windy and cloudy weather with 70 cars from all over Scotland participating and joined by about 20 Harleys and a Piaggio Vespa Classic Scooter! For the 1st time we didn’t enjoy blazing sunshine as we usually do.

As in previous shows the format had the day starting at the Park Bistro (http://theparkbistro.co.uk/how-to-find-us.html) next to the Millennium Link Canal near Philipstoun, east of Linlithgow for registration and tea/coffee and bacon rolls.

The road run took the cars round the West Lothian countryside and down to South Queensferry to visit the Forth Replacement Crossing Contact and Education Centre – opened specially for the visit – to see what the project’s all about and a cuppa before heading back to Linlithgow at lunchtime.

As normal the cars parked up around Linlithgow Cross, up the Kirkgate and into the Palace car park. Show commentary, entertainment and music were provided by Radio Grapevine and Provost Tom Kerr formally open the event welcoming the drivers and members of the public alike.  We were joined early afternoon by the Dunedin chapter of the Harley Davidsons who 1st provided a spectacular drive-by before parking up at the side of the Cross well sheltered out of the wind.

The oldest vehicles present were the locally owned and entered 1937 Auto-Bits Austin Van, closely followed by the 1938 Morris 8 Saloon, and then the 1942 Willy’s Jeep.

The ‘best car of the show’ prize was won this year by Martin Ewart’s remarkable 1953 Bentley R-Type Special. 2nd prize went to Alan Johnstone from Falkirk with his immaculate1966 Triumph TR4a (for the 2nd year in a row), and 3rd prize went to Charlie Bell in the 1938 Morris 8. It’s a novelty that this year two of the three prizes went to local car group members from Linlithgow Classics…for the very 1st time!
