We added a new event to the Classic Car calendar in central Scotland in 2010 – the Linlithgow Classic Car Day, which was held in Linlithgow in glorious sun shine on Sunday 5th September.

The day saw about 60 classic cars from various marques converge on Linlithgow.  As well as our own group members’ cars, various car clubs who turned up included Ferrari, Porsche, JockMogs, Lothian Car Club, Monklands Car Club, Jowetts, and individual entrants including Triumphs, Rovers, Austin Healeys, Aston Martin DB9, Sunbeams, MGs, Westfields, Jaguars, Fords, Vauxhalls, Austins, and a Nissan GTR, among others.

We think the oldest car present was a 1937 Austin Van courtesy of Ricki Steadman of AutoBits in Linlithgow (www.auto-bits.co.uk), and others ranged from immediate post war, through 1950s + 1960s up until the present day with modern supercars.

The programme for the day saw the cars gather at the Park Bistro in the morning (http://www.theparkbistro.co.uk/how-to-find-us.html)  followed by a road run via Sth Queensferry and Boness Motor Museum (http://www.motor-museum.bo-ness.org.uk) for a cuppa, returning to Linlithgow for lunchtime to show off the cars in the town centre at the Palace + the Cross.  In the afternoon the show moved to Kingsfield Golf Centre (www.kingsfieldleisure.com) ending with a BBQ for everyone concerned.

Linlithgow Classics Car Group are hugely grateful to all those who brought their cars for the day and also the general public who showed up in their droves to see the cars.

We carried out a survey of people who attended the car day and an economic impact assessment based upon the survey and other information on expenditure on the event carried out by locally based Keddie Consulting Ltd (www.keddieconsult.com). This estimates that the Classic Car Day contributed approximately £5,300 in economic benefit to the economy, of which almost 90% was spent in local businesses…a very useful contribution in difficult economic times!

We hope that you’ll come and join us to enjoy the fun in 2011 – scheduled for Sunday 4th September + look forward to seeing you then.
